A lot of typical sales/corporate shenanigans, the difference here is that lives were/are on the line. Really bad look for Boeing’s image.

It’s not a good look for Boeing. Of course, I’m pretty sure every company that deals with regulators is trying to get friendly treatment from them. The real issue seems to be that Boeing was doing while people inside thought it wasn’t safe. It’s one thing to avoid unnecessary red tape, it’s another altogether to do so to ship a bad product. I mean, I really doubt the people at the top pushing the FAA thought they were trying to get a defective plane certified, but it sounds like they were ignoring feedback from more cautious people (granted, on any project as big as the MAX, I’m sure you can find a few people who think it isn’t going well, regardless of how it’s actually doing) .

Well said, based on some of the emails, being cautious seemed to put a target on your back. So it seems like some of those with genuine concerns didn’t speak up for whatever reason, and then when it became obvious things that had been overlooked were unsafe it was “too late”.

I seriously wonder if any Boeing employees are gonna face any criminal charges.

I honestly think part of the problem dates way back to when Boeing was allowed to take over McDonnell Douglas, creating the defacto duopoly with Airbus. The cronyism with federal regulators, the lack of care regarding customer service, and the lackadaisical attitude in general really seem like the result of a company that’s been too insulated for too long from effective competition . One alternative doesn't really make for a dynamic marketplace.

I hope Boeing's defense division isn't this bad at opsec.

If your opsec involves hiding things from Congress... you are probably doing something wrong.

DOJ is investigating. I bet at least a few people get indicted.

Ive occasionally fantasized about intentionally wrapping my car around a tree on the way to work. Not to kill myself or anything, just to have a really ironclad excuse not to show up that day, and maybe for a few days after.
